Chicago-born NEA Jazz Master Jack DeJohnette has brought out a myriad of melodic colors on the drum set for more than 50 years. His music continues to turn traditions inside out with “spellbinding and haunting results” (Pitchfork) as he performs with his scintillating trio of saxophonist Ravi Coltrane and bassist Matthew Garrison.
Chicago native and Northwestern graduate Thaddeus Tukes is a vibraphonist celebrated for his “fluid technique and pervasive elegance” (Chicago Tribune). His quintet, in its Symphony Center debut, opens the evening.
This concert is part of 2020: Year of Chicago Music.
